You show up in the city and you're good to go
You got a smile on your face
You're looking down the barrel of a shotgun though
And you know the game it plays
A city so big that you can't see out
It's swallowed you before
And you tip toe in like you've never been
And slowly close the door
It's time to try again round 4 or 5
Friendship's in the air
But the city's awake and ready
And it knows that you are there
You see a man nodding off sleeping under a tarp
Another one hailing a cab
A couple thousand broken minds
Buying up the latest fad
Back on the J train like a memory
Or some tread mill that bends and curves
When you fail to break the cycle
You get what you deserve
Final day and a ticket stub
Leaving without a trace
But the sun is out and it's beautiful
And so a smile finds your face
Heading up north on an upward kick
That city just takes and takes
The story of another person
Who never learns from their mistakes
