I got the call on a Wednesday
The 26th of July
Pain and anger filled my body
I got the call on a Wednesday night
Camp "Victory", Baghdad summer
3 weeks til you left the fight
It was over in a single instant
A single instant on a Wednesday night
He died right there inside the wire
So far from the war going on outside
But bombs are bombs and war is deadly
And it leaves you no safe place to hide
I can't believe we build these weapons
I can't believe these weapons sell
Politics ignores the victims
But every bomb has a tale to tell
This is war in all it's aspects
That death, the call, the funeral pains
The article in the daily paper
And all the memories that remain
Soldiers fighting so far from home
They'll be two more dead by tomorrow night
What the war to the friends and family?
They'll get the call and it'll change their lives
