Odes loved the bottle before he found Roselee,
and she found a better man in him, they raised a family.
When I met him he was a preacher, in a Southern Baptist church,
and I never heard him raise his voice, I never heard him curse.
He just loved her in the morning 'til the sun went down at night,
Roselee and Odes never left each other's side.
And as far as I can tell this love is exactly what I want,
will you love me when I'm sober, will you love me when I'm not.
Now Roselee is 93 and Odes dead and gone,
but she never will re-marry, she's content to be alone.
With the memory of the man she loved with all her heart,
she still talks to his old clothes, and washes his old car.
And they'd set out on the front porch and at night they'd count the stars,
she feels him in the cool night when she hears him in her heart.
And as far as I can tell this love is exactly what I want,
will you love me when I'm living, will you love me when I'm not.
He just loved her in the morning 'til the sun went down at night,
Roselee and Odes never left each other's side.
And as far as I can tell this love is exactly what I want,
will you love me when I'm living, will you love me when I'm not.
